History of Milnathort Town Hall

Milnathort Town Hall was completed in 1855 and designed by Mr. Watt of Kinross using rubble masonry. A Gothic Revival-style tower was later added, featuring arched doorways, tracery windows, clock faces, and a spire.

Originally commissioned by Orwell Parish Council, the hall initially functioned as a cattle exchange, market house, and police station with cells. Later on it became an important hub for the community where dances and ceilidhs and other events were often held.

By the early 21st century, the building had deteriorated. Perth and Kinross Council leased it to a local committee, leading to a £200,000 refurbishment completed in 2016, which introduced modern amenities like under-floor heating and an upgraded kitchen.

Today, Milnathort Town Hall remains an important community hub with classes and events held most days of the year.
